Haussmann will have another run this preparation in either Melbourne or Queensland following his breakthrough win on his return at Caulfield.
Paul Snowden, in charge of the Flemington arm of his father Peter’s operation, was happy to see the Commands colt return a winner in the Routley’s Hcp (1200m) for two-year-olds after a masterly ride by Mark Zahra.
Zahra had the colt, sent out at $6, behind the leader before securing a narrow run and getting him home by a length from Affable ($9) with General Groove ($15) a short head away third.
“He’s a horse we’ve held in high regard and we were pretty confident today,” Snowden said.
“Mark drove him through a tiny gap one off the fence and he was going well enough to take it at the time.
“I think he’s got a bit more ability than winter class.
“He may stay here but if he takes on a trip to Brisbane it’s definitely going to be the making of him. It would toughen him up.”
The colt finished third on debut to stablemate Dispatch over 1200m at Sandown on December 21 and was spelled immediately.
“He’s been well looked after. We’ve nursed him through his early two-year-old days. He was quite shinny when he raced and then he went out and he’s furnished into a really lovely horse,” Snowden said.
“He’ll get a mile later on but he’s not ready for that yet.
“He’s got good race sense. He’s one of those on speed 1400 metre to miler types that can quicken off a good tempo. So there’s a good future for him.”
